You are doing it wrong if you think a presentation is about the transmission of a large quantity of information.<\/a> You are doing it wrong if you think the presentation is a script<\/a> or a handout<\/a>. You are doing it wrong if you think you can deliver the best presentation by simply turning up on the day and reading stuff out to people<\/a>. You are doing it wrong even although everyone else does it that way. You’re doing it wrong because you haven’t understood that presentations are about learning not teaching. You’re doing it wrong because a presentation is about persuasion, even for science. It doesn’t have to be this way. Recognising that you are doing it wrong is the understanding of what The Matrix means<\/a> and this is the start to improving presentations. Stop doing it wrong.<\/a><\/p>\n

There are no rules in The Matrix. Recognising that the point of a presentation is sharing a message rather than downloading information is doing it right. Understanding that the supportive media should illustrate the message<\/a> is doing it right. Setting out to engage with the audience in the delivery of the message is doing it right. How one does the right thing is down to the experience and creativity of the presenter. Stop doing it wrong and give great presentations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
