Your presentation

Your presentation is the product of its constituent parts: the message, the media and the delivery. The overwhelming majority of presentations are constructed using the media as the foundation, not the message. The information is typed into presentation software, some images are added and then, at the delivery that script is read out. There is an incredible, almost worldwide conformity in this approach, whether in lecture theatres, boardrooms or education with the implicit belief that this is effective communication; it is not.

a presentation slide with literally hundreds of words on it

The first blog post on this site was published on March 5th 2013. It had the stated aim “to discuss and build upon this concept, offering opportunities for discussion and learning around the nature, construction and delivery of presentations to maximise the impact and success of presentations.” It introduced the p cubed concept. What started as one man railing against the tide of bulletpoints has, over those years, developed into a concept, thousands of lectures, hundreds of workshops, an Honorary Professorship, even a chapter in my Sensei’s book. The desire to improve the world of (medical) communication continues. The mission is not complete. Join me in the discussion and the learning and sharing.

  1. I’m helping you spread the word, changing one presentation at a time. I currently run a professional development teaching series for med ed academics at Launceston Clinical school and the first discussion topic is beyond bullet points followed by Making learning stick- the strategies that make what we teach actually last!
